ACM Awards 2016: Round-Up

Will Chris Stapleton’s dominance ever end? Little Big Town’s Kimberly Schlapman summed it up better than anybody when she joked “thank you Chris Stapleton for not being a group”.

It’s fair to say this year’s awards generally had a feeling of predictability. Chris Stapleton swept up four awards, winning Male Vocalist of the Year, New Male Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year (for ‘Traveller’) and Song of the Year (for ‘Nobody To Blame’). Chris could probably have a go at the female category next year and still be in with a chance!

Little Big Town were crowned winners of Vocal Group of the Year once again, and Miranda Lambert collected her annual award for Female Vocalist of the Year, an award she seems totally incapable of losing.

Perhaps the most surprising part of the ceremony was Jason Aldean winning Entertainer of the Year ahead of Garth Brooks, Luke Bryan, Eric Church and Miranda Lambert. It wasn’t too long ago that we were talking about Jason’s omission from the CMA Awards nominations. It was a fantastic night for Jason, who also had the opportunity to debut his brand new single ‘Lights Come On’.

There were some memorable performances throughout the evening. Kelsea Ballerini teamed up with pop sensation Nick Jonas to perform her brand new single ‘Peter Pan’, Brett Eldredge celebrated yet another #1 by performing ‘Drunk On Your Love’, and Kenny Chesney performed his new single ‘Noise’ for the first time on TV. Katy Perry also joined Dolly Parton for a stunning performance of ‘Coat Of Many Colours’, followed by classics ‘Jolene’ and ‘9 to 5’. Keith Urban performed his superb new single ‘Wasted Time’ from his upcoming album ‘Ripcord’, and Blake Shelton performed his new single ‘Came Here To Forget’. It’s fair to say it was a showcase of how the country charts will look for the next couple of months.
