CMA Awards Round-Up

Last night was a sign of change, summed up in style by C2C 2016 artist Chris Stapleton who sent shockwaves through the country music world, sweeping up 3 awards. Stapleton fought off competition from Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton and Jason Aldean, just to name a few, despite his lack of airplay on country radio. It has been suggested that the ‘bro-country’ trend has moved on, and there is no better example than Stapleton’s incredible success. Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town said “to see Girl Crush winning an award, Chris Stapleton winning and Kacey Musgraves being up there…I think the tide is turning”.

There was also an array of memorable performances, including a duet between Stapleton and fellow Tennessean, Justin Timberlake. This included a beautiful rendition of Stapleton’s ‘Tennessee Whiskey’, followed by Timberlake’s ‘Drink You Away’. Also, fellow C2C 2016 performer Thomas Rhett was joined on stage by Fall Out Boy for a performance of Rhett’s ‘Crash and Burn’ as well as Fall Out Boy’s ‘Uma Thurman’. Keith Urban also duetted with John Mellencamp on ‘Little Pink Houses’, and Eric Church teamed up with Hank Williams Jr. for ‘Are You Ready For The Country”.
