Here’s your round-up of all the recent country news!
It might be almost six months away and none of us are thinking about cold winter nights but CMA have revealed that Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood will once again host the annual awards show.
This year is the 50th edition and will be broadcast live from the Bridgestone Arena. Brad and Carrie have had this gig since 2008.
Now That’s What I Call….
Here in the UK we are very much in the minority when we explain to the uninitiated about our music tastes. The majority stopped listening to “Country and Western” after Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.
It’s always handy therefore to be able to refer to the varied gems that form the basis of our favoured listening material, and the good old mainstay of compilations ‘Now That’s What I Call…’ has embraced country music. We are now at Volume 9 and this album will be released on the 10th June. The track listings are as follows:
- Luke Bryan, “Strip It Down”
- Sam Hunt, “Take Your Time”
- Carrie Underwood,”Smoke Break”
- Cam, “Burning House”
- Little Big Town, “Girl Crush”
- Chris Young, “I’m Comin’ Over”
- Kenny Chesney, “Save It For a Rainy Day”
- Brad Paisley, “Country Nation”
- Dierks Bentley, “Drunk on a Plane”
- Granger Smith, “Backroad Song”
- Chris Janson, “Buy Me a Boat”
- Maddie & Tae, “Girl in a Country Song”
- Kelsea Ballerini, “Dibs”
- Jana Kramer, “I Got the Boy”
- Brothers Osborne, “Stay a Little Longer”
- Billy Currington, “Don’t It”
- Old Dominion, “Break Up With Him”
- Rascal Flatts, “I Like the Sound of That”

How could anyone not find something to like here!
Little Big Town
Talking about converting the masses to “our” music, you perhaps should not use the latest Little Big Town single ‘One Of These Days’ as an example. Now that would really confuse them.
It’s a terrific upbeat fun dance record with LBT’s awesome vocals produced by Pharrell and totally un- country. It’s also very good and will turn a few heads.
Check it out. You might like it.
The finalists of the 2016 MusicRow Awards have been announced and we always pay particular attention to the Breakthrough Artist of The Year nominees.
This year the 5 artists are:
A Thousand Horses
A very strong line up and very difficult to predict particularly as the award is voted by subscribed MusicRow readers.
Our choice for what it’s worth….either Cam or Old Dominion.
We had the great pleasure of meeting David Nail in March when he popped over for C2C. He was tight lipped on the release date of his new album, but it’s now been confirmed that his fourth studio album ‘Fighter’ will be released on 15th July. David could literally sing the phone book and we would lap it up.
‘Nights On Fire’ has been around for a long time now and will feature on the album. It still seems to be crawling slowly upwards on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.
We’ve mentioned Chris Janson who appears on the Breakthrough Artist nominee lists. He is of course famous for his ‘Buy Me A Boat’ smash that made his career last year.
We have often pointed out that it only needs one lucky break for the “right” song to propel someone to stardom and this is the perfect example. He has just announced that his ‘Buy Me A Boat Tour’ will include more than 100 dates in the US this summer. At this rate the boat will be a super yacht in Monaco!
To be fair, there is so much more to Chris than this song. He puts on a great show and has an amazing stage presence.
Upcoming June releases include:
Maren Morris – ‘Hero’
Dan and Shay – ‘Obsessed’
Cassadee Pope – ‘Summer’ EP
Little Big Town – ‘Wanderlust’
Brandy Clark – ‘Big Day In A Small Town’
Frankie Ballard – ‘El Rio’
Chris Young – ‘Sober Saturday Night’ ft. Vince Gill Thompson Square – ‘You Make It Look So Good’
Old Dominion – ‘Song For Another Time’
