Country music superstars Little Big Town have scooped the prestigious CMA (Country Music Association) International Artist Achievement Award, which recognises outstanding achievement by a US-based artist who has demonstrated the most significant creative growth, development and promotion of the Country Music industry outside the United States during the eligibility period.

In a surprise presentation, Little Big Town band members Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook, and Phillip Sweet were given their award by BBC Radio 2 presenter Steve Wright following an interview at Wogan House in London with Wright and co-presenters Tim Smith and Janey Lee Grace. Damon Whiteside, CMO of the Country Music Association joined the group to represent the CMA.

Previous winners of the CMA International Artist Achievement Award include: Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum, Shania Twain, Kacey Musgraves, Brad Paisley, Dixie Chicks and The Mavericks.

Little Big Town were on these shores to headline the C2C (Country To Country) festival, the biggest event of its kind in Europe and closed the shows at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro on Friday 9 March, Dublin’s 3Arena on Saturday 10 March and London’s The O2 on Sunday 11 March to rapturous reception. This follows their widely-praised UK tour last autumn, which included a sold-out show at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

2018 marks the twentieth anniversary of Little Big Town’s hugely successful career, which has earned them multiple Grammy, ACM and CMA awards, including CMA Vocal Group of the Year for the sixth time in a row last year, plus an Emmy award. They have also enjoyed US number 1 singles with ‘Pontoon’, ‘Tornado’, ‘Day Drinking’ and most recently the history-making, best-selling country single of 2015, ‘Girl Crush’.

Their seventh studio album ‘The Breaker’, produced by Jay Joyce is out now on Capitol Records Nashville/Decca.
