Country music superstar and multi-faceted entertainer Blake Shelton brought the heat to radio this week with brand new single “Turnin’ Me On.” The “sultry” (Entertainment Tonight) track from his chart-topping album Texoma Shore was most-added upon impact, with 65 stations already on board.
“We’re sitting on my bus one day earlier in 2017 and I think I was in Baton Rouge,” shared Shelton upon album launch in November. “I was up there alone and I had my guitar, started playing a little melody that I was hearing in my head and next thing you know I started writing a song. I wrote a verse, then I wrote a chorus, then I realized it was going somewhere and I felt good about it. Like I always [have] in the last couple of years I called up my friend Jessi Alexander and said, ‘Man, I think I’m onto something and I need somebody way better than me to try to bring this thing home.’ She and I and Josh Osborne ended up writing this song, I’m super proud of it – and it’s not hard to figure out who this song is about.”
Rolling Stone has declared it a “smoldering, mid-tempo number about a seductive flame.” Meanwhile, Shelton has already introduced fans to the single with performances on Late Night with Seth Meyers, TODAY, the 2018 CMT Awards and more. “Turnin’ Me On” follows smash hits “I Lived It” and “I’ll Name The Dogs,” the latter of which notched him the 25th No. 1 single of his career and has just earned its RIAA Gold certification.
In addition to the success of its singles, Shelton’s Texoma Shore has marked a number of milestones for the Warner Bros. / Warner Music Nashville icon. In the week following album launch, he became the first artist in Country Aircheck / Mediabase history to have six songs chart simultaneously. It became his sixth record to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and marked his 11th all-genre Top 10. The record also spurred this year’s massive “Country Music Freaks” Tour. Shelton, who has headlined a number of major festivals throughout the summer, will head into the fall with a return to NBC’s The Voice, where he will spend his 15th season as a coach alongside joined by Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson and Adam Levine.
