Brett Eldredge can visualize the music video for every song he writes, and he knew in the instant he completed writing “Wanna Be That Song,” it needed an epic video. So the Illinois native, who grew up going to Chicago Cubs games, turned to the epic and historic game of baseball and Wrigley Field to tell the story.
“I chose Wrigley Field because I grew up going to games there and I’ve been a diehard Cubs fan from the day I was born,” said Eldredge. “I’ve got childhood pictures from when I was still in diapers in a Cubs uniform. I love Wrigley Field, it’s such a magical place.”
With Wrigley Field as the setting, the cinematic video uses baseball to represent the journey of life. It features Eldredge beginning as a young boy in the stands, to experiencing his first kiss, to fatherhood and beyond. “I wanted to capture this video in this stadium because “Wanna Be That Song” is all about those big moments in life, and a lot of my big moments have involved this place and this city,” said Eldredge.
He returned to Wrigley Field for an unprecedented experience on Tuesday night as the Cubs took on the St. Louis Cardinals. Before the game, Eldredge premiered the video on the Jumbotron, and then threw out the ceremonial first pitch of the game before leading the crowd in “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” for the Seventh inning stretch.
Top 30 and climbing, “Wanna Be That Song” is the third single from Eldredge’s most recent album, Illinois, which has already yielded the #1 singles “Lose My Mind” and “Drunk On Your Love.” With five consecutive # 1 singles, Eldredge is currently on tour with Keith Urban on the Ripcord Tour, and will co-host the CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night To Rock, which airs August 3 on ABC.
