C2C REVIEW: Kip Moore – The O2, London

How good was it to have Kip Moore back in London over the weekend? The long-awaited return of the big UK fan favourite was the thing on many C2C-goers’ lips ahead of the festival, and the Georgia native didn’t disappoint.

There wasn’t any communication with the crowd throughout the set, which some might have found a little odd. Maybe Kip was of the opinion that the die-hards in attendance just wanted to hear as many songs as possible after such a long wait, which is totally understandable (and we weren’t complaining!). He rattled through what was a huge set list for a 75 minute slot, packed full of tracks all the way from Up All Night to the more recent Wild World, with plenty of favourites from Wild Ones and Slowheart in between.

It’s fair to say the ballads were few and far between, which is never an issue when Kip is in town! There was plenty to keep the hardcore fans happy, with tracks like “All Time Low” from the Underground EP, which opened the show, “That Was Us,” “The Bull” and his latest single “Crazy One More Time,” which has been given a re-release from his debut album. It was a rip-roaring set which melted the faces off the 20,000 in attendance – high octane, loud and gritty, all the things you need for a top notch evening with Kip Moore.

We adored Kip’s rendition of the Tears For Fears classic, “Everybody Wants To Rule The World.” Only Kip’s band could have pulled that off with such class and precision. That intro! It has to be said that Kip’s guys are some of the very best in the business – Friday night’s performance was an absolute musical lesson from the Slowhearts. The end of “Come and Get It” towards the back end of the set was nothing short of masterful.

As far as C2C performances go, this was right up there with the very best. Surely Kip has to be knocking on the door for a headline slot at C2C soon? He blew the roof off the place, and it was a very difficult set for Miranda Lambert to follow. He deserves that chance massively – only time will tell if that decision will be made. It’s worth noting that he slightly over-ran his set time, which is pure Kip! He does things his way, and that’s why we all have such admiration.

Three years is far too long for us UK fans to have waited for a Kip Moore show, and it sounds like plans are already being made for a return to make up for lost time. A stunning set from one of the very best.
