Chase Bryant Covers Little Big Town’s ‘Better Man’

C2C Festival pop-up artist, Chase Bryant, this week released a re-worked cover version of Little Big Town’s ‘A Better Man’, famously written and performed (once) by Taylor Swift.

In the hands of Swift and Karen Fairchild, ‘A Better Man’ tells the story of a woman still struggling to come to terms with the ending of a relationship even though she knows she is ultimately better off.

Bryant, who has called upon the help of up and coming all-girl trio Runaway Jane to provide harmonies on his version of the song, changes the gender of the narrator and we get to hear about his side of the story in a real ‘he said – she said’ turn of events. By switching the accusatory “you” to “I,” Bryant becomes the man whose actions have wrecked this relationship and he feels the loss just as much as Fairchild in Little Big Town’s version, although he is saddled with knowing that the fault is all his.

In what other genre would you get such clever, original storytelling? Let’s hope Bryant chooses to play that one when he appears at the C2C Festival in just over 3 weeks time.
