ANNIKA, BRETT KISSEL – ‘ENCORE’
Brett Kissel will be a familiar name to those who saw his performance at Buckle & Boots back in 2019.
Annika found fame in her native Canada as a member of Leaving Thomas, but has now embarked on a solo career.
‘Encore’ was written by Annika and produced by her husband Spencer Cheyne, who also plays drums in Brett Kissel’s band. Canadian Country Music at its best.
GARY LEVOX – ‘WORKING ON SUNDAY’
It’s a song that Gary has performed live previously. It was written a couple of years ago with Cledus T Judd, Wendell Mobley and Tony Martin, and now gets a full release on Big Machine Records.
Gary states that the song has always been a special one, as the chorus is interpreted in various ways depending upon the listeners’ own personal circumstances. Right up there with the best Rascal Flatts material.
ANDREA VASQUEZ – ‘USED TO’
Andrea’s last single ‘Bed You Made’ was picked up by CMT, which is huge for a new aspiring artist. She’s now followed up with a slow, moody ballad titled ‘Used To’, written with David Espinoza.
She’s forsaken her pop-country vibe for a full on trad-country track that reminds us of the songs that Reba would have chosen to perform back in the day.
The dobro, by the way, was performed by Josh Matheny, who has previously featured on Carly Pearce and Sam Hunt recordings.
BRANTLEY GILBERT – ‘GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN’
He shared this song on Instagram back in August and it resonated with those who were mourning the loss of loved ones, particularly in the build up to the 9/11 anniversary. The song has now received a full release and will receive support from military families everywhere.
Written with Brock Berryhill, Jason Blaine and Jay Brunswick back in 2018, ‘Gone But Not Forgotten’ was intended to honour servicemen and women lost in the line of duty.
JULIA COLE, RENEE BLAIR – ‘SOMETHIN’ IN THE SUNSHINE (ACOUSTIC)’
Maddie and Tae are the go-to for country girl duets, but we reckon that Julia Cole and Renee Blair could give them some competition!
‘Something In the Sunshine’ is an acoustic version of a pop-country track that was first released in June. We’ve lost the click beat that featured the original and the song now feels so much more sassy and natural, perfectly fitting with the vocals.
OLD DOMINION – ‘HAWAII’
Credit where credit’s due, Old Dominion just keep on producing hit songs.
The guys have teamed up with master songwriter Shane McAnally for another gem from their forthcoming ‘Time, Tequila and Therapy’ album, due on 8th October.
It’s truly another ‘one listen and you’re hooked’ song that the band are famous for.
KEELAN DONOVAN – ‘THIS IS OUR STORY’
Big production on this one from singer=songwriter Keelan Donovan from Maine.
He has a knack of getting placements for his music on films and TV, and ‘This Is Our Story’ has already been featured on the trailer for ‘The Good Doctor’ which is now into season 5 on ABC in the States.
His music has already had placements on Netflix and feature films including ‘Joe Bell’ and ‘Assimilate’.
TROY CARTWRIGHT – ‘BREAKING EVERY HEART IN TEXAS’
He’s signed with Warner Music Nashville and will be releasing his major label studio EP ‘Halfway To Houston’ on October 15th. If the first taster ‘Breaking Every Heart in Texas’ is an indication of quality, we might be getting a gem.
He signed with the label in 2018 and has been releasing singles, most notably ‘Hung Up On You’ which received critical acclaim. He’s due to tour with LANCO later in the year.
LARRY FLEET – ‘HEART ON MY SLEEVE’
He’s already appeared on Bob Harris’s Country Show on Radio 2 and is gearing up to the release of his album ‘Stack of Records’. ‘Heart On My Sleeve’ is the fourth taster from the album and was exclusively premiered on Bob’s show last week.
Fleet made his Opry debut last Friday and big things are predicted for this Tennessee native.
JADE HELLIWELL – ‘SMOKE’
Completing our round-up this week is the new one from Jade Helliwell, who’s been back out this summer performing at the likes of Buckle & Boots and Tennessee Fields, showcasing her new material which has been going down a treat.
‘Smoke’ was debuted live at Buckle & Boots, and it’s another killer addition to Jade’s fast-growing repertoire. Well worth checking out.
