THE WILDER BLUE – ‘OKIE SOLDIER’
You may recall this this Texas group comprising of members Zane Williams, Paul Eason, Lyndon Hughes, Sean Rodriguez and Andy Rogers in their previous incarnation, Hill Country. They changed their name to The Wilder Blue last October due to a trademark issue.
‘Okie Soldier’ tells the story of an Oklahoma enlisting for a second tour, and is one of two new tracks that the band have released this week. The second track ‘The Conversastion’ has received comparisons to The Eagles in its style and composition.
THE WANDERING HEARTS – ‘ON OUR WAY’
A truly uplifting track from The Wandering Hearts, and the perfect way to describe the mood of the country as we gradually move towards where we all want to be post-Covid. Their new self titled album will be released on 6th August.
The band are out on the road this summer on their ‘In Harmony: An Intimate Tour’, starting in Colchester on 21st August and concluding in Oxford on the 15th September. Be quick if you want tickets, they are almost sold out!
ASHLEY COOKE – ‘ALREADY DRANK THAT BEER’
Those of you who are embracing TikTok as your social media video streaming source will probably be very aware of Ashley Cooke, who has essentially utilised the platform to promote her music.
As an independent artist working in Nashville, she’s been able to expand her reach considerably via the platform, and the video for this song has already clocked up over two million views within days of release.
The song was written by Jessi Alexander, Jessie Jo Dillon and Wendell Mobley, and is the third release from her new album to be released in August.
FLATLAND CAVALRY – ‘A COWBOY KNOWS HOW’
Their new album ‘Welcome To Countryland’ is set to be released this Friday, and the band have released another taster from it. ‘A Country Knows How’ was written by Luke Combs, Dan Isbell and Jonathan Singleton.
The band have developed a connection with Combs since touring with him in 2019. He has publically stated his admiration for the music that the guys from Texas have been producing. He offered them this song that he couldn’t see himself recording, as he’s “not a cowboy from Texas”.
They start their ‘Welcome To Countryland’ tour later this summer in support of the album, and will also join Luke and Parker McCollum for selected dates this year.
KALSEY KULYK – ‘BETTER OFF’
Canadian husband and wife team Kalsey Kulyk and Eric Ethridge recently announced that they are expecting their first child, so congratulations are in order! It’s a feel-good song that she says makes her days brighter. She says it was a song that helped her through the dark days of the pandemic.
DRAKE WHITE – ‘ANGEL SIDE OF YOU / HURTS THE HEALING’
Drake hasn’t made any secret of his harrowing health issues over the last couple of years, but we are delighted to see that he appears to be on the way to recovery.
He’s released two tracks that were written during the early stages of his recovery. They are both songs that greatly assisted his spiritual and therapeutic health, when he had a choice as to whether to succumb to his condition or fight back to where he is today.
CHRIS LANE – ‘AINT EVEN MET YOU YET’
We have been enjoying the recent output from Chris Lane, and the trend continues with a song that he wrote for his new born son Dutton, prior to his birth. The song was written with Michael Lotten and Jordan Walker.
It’s a deeply personal one, and follows Lane’s recent ‘Fill Them Boots’ single that will also be the name of his upcoming headline tour.
RAELYNN – ‘SMALL TOWN PRAYER’
Parenthood is certainly a running theme through this week’s highlights list, and mom-to-be RaeLynn has released a song that she states deals with day-to-day concerns.
“I know that all our prayers mean something to God, but to me, the simple ones from a small town hit his ears a little different.”
The song follows her previous release ‘Made For Me To Love’, that was written about her new baby girl, due in September. She’s currently in residence at ‘Ole Red’ in Nashville until July 7th, the bar on Broadway owned by Blake Shelton who was her coach on The Voice.
