Here’s this week’s round-up of the best new country tunes, featuring great new songs from Thomas Rhett, Brittney Spencer, Ryan Kinder and more!
THOMAS RHETT – ‘THINGS DADS DO’
They write songs with their sons, in Thomas Rhett’s case! It helps of course if your Dad is Rhett Atkins, a multi award-winning songwriter who has been involved in many of TR’s prior hit records.
Matt Dragstrem and Chase McGill are credited as co-writers on this touching tribute to Dads everywhere. Thomas Rhett and Rhett Akins debuted the song last week they shared the stage at The Grand Ole Opry.
BRANDON RAY – ‘FAMILY ALBUM’
Good advice from Brandon Ray. Life flashes by so quickly and the memories fade. Brandon’s starting his own family album to capture the moments.
The album will be growing by the day, as he’s the father of a six week old baby and he’s been sharing pictures on his Facebook page, together with memories of his siblings.
BRITTNEY SPENCER – ‘SOBER & SKINNY’
We are loving the new song from Brittney Spencer. ‘Sober & Skinny’ was written with Nelly Joy and Jason Reeves, who were formerly part of Gone West.
Brittney released her EP ‘Compassion’ at the end of 2020, and she is preparing her debut album, writing with fellow Nashville artists Maren Morris and Amanda Shires amongst others.
She’s already made her Opry debut and has also appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, so it seems certain that we will be hearing much more from Brittney Spencer.
CANAAN COX – ‘UP WITH THE SUN’
If this has the exposure that it deserves, we reckon that Canaan Cox could have his first big hit here. ‘Up With the Sun’ has the hooks that would sound awesome on country radio.
His recent appearance on the Bobby Bones Show could give this a real boost. Whilst working in a restaurant that Bones was eating in, Canaan slipped him a card, and the rest as they say is history!
Radio-friendly country at its best, and if you have the likes of Jimmie Allen or Mitchell Tenpenny on your playlists, you are going to love this one.
CLARE DUNN – ‘ HOW IT COMES OFF’
Clare’s due to release her 5-track EP ‘In This Kind of Light’ on August 13th, and here we have the first single release. She wrote ‘How It Comes Off’ with Driver Williams, who has penned tracks for Eric Church and Jason Aldean previously.
She had the ideas for the single whilst she was staying at the family ranch in Colorado, and the song is about the beginning of the end of a relationship.
GARY ALLAN – ‘TROUBLE KNOWS TROUBLE’
Gary’s due to release his new album this Friday. ‘Ruthless’ is his first album in eight years and we highlighted the lead track ‘Temptation’ a couple of weeks ago.
The second taster is ‘Trouble Knows Trouble’, written by Steve Bogard, Jason Sever and John Edwards, and if this is an indication of the album’s quality, the long wait for a new Gary Allan album might be worthwhile.
LAUREN ALAINA – ‘IF THE WORLD WAS A SMALL TOWN’
Lauren’s gearing up for the release of her new album, and her new song ‘If the World Was a Small Town’ is a taster from it. Written with David Garcia and Josh Miller, it muses about her life had she not moved away from her ‘small town’.
“Maybe we woulda made it out before I made it out”
Lauren’s also announced that her acting career is also taking centre stage. She’s starring in a new Hallmark romantic comedy called ‘Roadhouse Romance’ which premieres in September.
SETH ENNIS – ‘U-TURN’
Seth admits to having a bleak couple of years. He split from his label Arista Records and lost the desire to make music, but happily he’s now rejuvenated and raring to go again.
He admits to “falling off the face of the earth” but ‘U-Turn’ is the second release since his split with the label, and we reckon it has the hallmarks to relaunch his career.
Those of us who saw his performances in the UK a couple of years ago will know that he’s a talented and engaging performer, and it’s cool to see him back on form.
RYAN KINDER – ‘TANGLED UP’
Ryan’s released Part 2 of his ‘Room To Dream’ album, and the full project will be with us on 30th July.
‘Tangled Up’ is one of 10 songs on the new album, and is a bluesy falsetto-driven track that highlights the immense range in his vocal.
He’s also training to compete in the 2021 Ironman World Championships in honour of a friend who died of cancer recently. We caught up with Ryan recently – check out the interview here.
