Award winning UK Pop-Country band Outlander are about to release their brand new single ‘Old School’ ahead of their forthcoming EP. The song, written and produced by the band, will be available on all digital retailers from 18 November 2016.
Over the last year Outlander have reached some impressive milestones, and are hoping their new material will push them even further. In 2015 the group won the BCMA Horizon Act of the Year (a coveted award previously won by The Shires in 2014), and this year has
seen the band performing to wider audiences, including two dates at the C2C (Country to Country Festival at The O2, London), The Tall Ships Race at Blyth (Northumberland’s largest event), and were chosen to support Simply Red at The Emirates International Stadium, Durham.
‘Old School’ is the band’s latest offering and, aside from being written and performed by the band, it was also recorded, produced, mixed and mastered entirely in house using the expertise of the band. ‘Recording this way allowed us to really understand the song better without having to worry about getting everything recorded in a particular timeframe’, says the band, ‘this didn’t lengthen the process, but it meant that there was less pressure on us, so we could try and create something special.’ The song itself is a tongue-in-cheek look at modern love and social media; ‘we’re not criticising modern technology and life, just reminding people that it never hurts to be a bit old school now and then! While the song is about being old fashioned in our approach to relationships, we wanted the track to sound really modern in order to create a juxtaposition with the lyrics… however we did sneak some more traditional elements in with some of the guitar licks!’ Recorded and mixed by lead vocalist (and Music Production graduate) Ali Garner, the band really could explore the sounds they were hearing in their favourite music from Nashville, from acts such as Old Dominion, Hunter Hayes, and Sam Hunt. ‘Nowadays Nashville is a lot different, there is a
great vibe that we really wanted to capture.’
Outlander’s lineup is completed by Popular Music graduate Alex Young (Lead Guitar, Backing Vocals), Brian Boyd (Guitar, Backing Vocals), Physics student David Roughton (Bass, Backing Vocals), and Lowri Dowell (Drums).
With the UK Country music scene being made more popular over the last couple of years, thanks to acts such as The Shires and Ward Thomas, Outlander want to showcase their own brand of Pop-Country which has been refined over their last year together as a band.
