Hunter Hayes Releases Brand New Song ‘Dear God’

Five-time GRAMMY nominee and multi-Platinum- selling country star Hunter Hayes is back with the brand new song “Dear God,” available everywhere today (listen HERE). Hayes released the song alongside a cinemograph visualizer video (watch below) and a vertical video on Spotify (watch HERE), where the track has already accumulated nearly 100,000 streams in a matter of hours. Co-written with pop hit-maker Andy Grammer and accomplished songwriter Dave Spencer, the lyrics are an unflinchingly honest and introspective look at the universally relatable experience of struggling with self-doubt.

“I had just gotten back from a TV performance in New York and was exhausted but excited to have an evening hang/write booked with Andy Grammar,” says Hayes. “We started by talking for an hour for his podcast. We covered a lot of topics but one of the big things I took away from it was the human condition of never feeling “good enough.” I had written a letter on the plane that was at first “Dear World” before I realized I was actually writing to God. Andy has such a great way of digging through feelings and bringing them to the surface and Dave brought some awesome new ideas to it that gave it a real three-dimensional approach. When Andy took the series of questions we were making for the chorus and turned the last one into ‘are you sure that you don’t mess up’ it hit me really hard. I ask that all the time and I don’t think I’m not the only one. It’s a valid question and one I truly believe you don’t ask unless you already know that answer because the opposite would be entirely too scary to live with. The song’s description of the nights when I question my world couldn’t be more vulnerable. We all face the question of being good enough for the world around us and sometimes we just need a reminder that we are.”

As the song became available worldwide, Hayes was playing it live, along with a handful of other unreleased music coming later this year, for an intimate, invite-only crowd at LA’s renowned Winston House. The Louisiana native played a headlining show the night prior for the OC Fair at the Pacific Amphitheater, the capacity crowd singing back every word to smash hits like the multi-platinum No. 1 “Wanted” and “I Want Crazy.” Fans can catch him singing the national anthem for tonight’s LA Dodger’s game at Dodger Stadium.

With multiple sales certifications, more than 700 million on-demand streams, three chart-topping singles and over 40 award nominations and wins, Hayes shows in this latest release that he continually evolves. American Songwriter observed that “Hunter Hayes is on a mission to become a household name” when the then-20-year-old released his debut project and he has yet to slow down since. Earlier this year he crafted a project that intertwined three songs and culminated in a mini-movie event entitled “Pictures.” The singer / songwriter and expert instrumentalist envisioned the songs being connected and brought “You Should Be Loved,” “More” and “This Girl” to life in three 50’s inspired music videos.
