INTERVIEW: Bri Fletcher On Her New Music, Songwriting & More!

LifeInASong_UK

Texan singer-songwriter Bri Fletcher joined us at this year’s CRS to chat about the challenges of the past year, new music, her style of songwriting and more!

Bri Fletcher has been featured on Spotify editorial playlists New Music Nashville and on the ACM‘s New Music Friday Spotify playlist.

As an avid activist for anti-bullying and the force behind her very own Teen Guidance Foundation, Fletcher brings her “Debully” assemblies to schools across the US, including one last year in her home state of Texas where she experienced severe bullying first hand as a teen.

Her new single, ‘Pessimist’, is available now.

How have you found the last year, from an artist’s perspective?

It’s definitely had its ups and downs. I feel like as artists we usually don’t have this much free time so it’s a blessing but it doesn’t come without it’s challenges. I’ve been working on balancing the creative and productive side of things!

We’ve all been hit hard by the pandemic, but it’s been particularly difficult for musicians. Have you been doing many Zoom writes?

I’ve done a few! I actually don’t mind them at all. It’s more challenging but it’s quite fun!

For anyone here in the UK who maybe isn’t too familiar with you and your background, tell us about your path into country music and how it all started for you?

I’ve been doing country music since I was 14! I started out singing in churches and eventually started writing my own music that is more country and pop influenced.

We’d love to delve into your writing style -where do you typically get your inspiration from when you go into a writing session?

I love pulling ideas from quotes, stories, or even just what I am feeling at that moment!

Do you prefer solo writes or co-writes? Can you tell us about any new music you have coming up on the horizon?

I love co-writes because you have someone to balance your ideas. Don’t get me wrong I also love writing by myself but it’s a lot easier when you have someone to bounce concepts and melodies off of!

I have a new song ‘Pessimist’ out now that I think you will love!

As tricky as it is to look ahead at the moment, what achievements do you hope to fulfil in 2021?

My goal is to work towards a few live performances because I miss it so so much.

As we’re based in the UK, we have to ask if you’d be interested in testing out the international country market at some point?

Oh absolutely! I’ve been to the UK a few times and have always had the most amazing time and think it would do so well there.
