INTERVIEW: John Driskell Hopkins On ‘Lonesome High’ & New Zac Brown Band Music

John Driskell Hopkins of the Zac Brown Band joined Dan via Zoom to chat about his new solo record ‘Lonesome High’, as well as what’s been cooking in the studio for ZBB! Watch the interview below to hear John talking about the freedom of releasing a record independently, what he wanted to achieve sonically with the solo album and lots more, including the ‘grown up’ material the guys have been recording over the last few weeks.

We were also joined by Irish singer-songwriter Chloe Agnew, who has been working in the studio with John this past week!

Speaking about the ‘Lonesome High’ record and the freedom to showcase his own writing, John explained:

“We never stop writing. I’ve never been one to say ‘Zac Brown Band is the only thing that I’m going to do’, I’ve always had other songs that I like to write about my life. Sometimes, those work for Zac Brown Band and sometimes they don’t. When they don’t, I still need a place to put them. I enjoy playing for smaller crowds and bigger crowds, and I’ve got a great band that played everything on that record and we enjoy each other. It’s an outlet for me to be able to put those songs somewhere when they’re not going to fit into my main gig”
