Canadian artist Madeline Merlo has released her debut album on Open Road Recordings.
She’s had very promising start to her music career having had a national hit record with ‘Honey Jack’, featured on the album, and she was voted Canadian Country Music Association’s Rising Star in 2015.
We now get the opportunity to check out her new album ‘Free Soul’ and it certainly shows a lot of promise.
The album includes all four singles that have shaped Madeline’s career to date alongside 7 other tracks. ‘Honey Jack’ opened doors for her including an opening slot on a Keith Urban tour.
The songs included here are all extremely catchy, well produced and show off the fine vocal talents that have featured heavily on Canadian Country Radio over the last year.
A particular favourite is the opener ‘Watcha Wanna Do About It’ which ticks all the boxes and stacks up against anything that Nashville is producing. It is Madeline’s highest charting single to date, peaking at #10 on the Canadian Country Chart, and it is certainly good enough to compete with some of the big-hitters in the US.
Her record company have been heavily promoting her and it remains to be seen if she can break into the lucrative market south of the border. It’s refreshing to hear a new artist who embraces the modern style of Pop Country without entirely losing her traditional roots. She also has more strings to her bow. You can catch Madeline Merlo’s acting debut in the upcoming country musical ‘Country Crush’, inspired by the Nashville scene.
We might be hearing more of Madeline Merlo.
