It’s been another good week for new music, but not necessarily if you’re looking for the next heavy rotation track on Country Hits Radio!
Some familiar names, but definitely a week to highlight our potential stars of tomorrow…
LUCAS HOGE – ‘THAT’LL BE THE DAY’ / ‘BAD PEOPLE’
We first came across Lucas Hoge in 2017 when we reviewed his ‘Dirty South’ album. He’s been very quiet since but has now released two tracks from, we suspect, a new project. ‘That’ll Be The Day’ is our pick.
TRISTON MAREZ – ‘DARLIN’’
Country music from Houston, Texas. Triston Marez released his debut EP in January this year, ‘That Was All Me’.
‘Darlin’ is the first single release from a guy that cites Aaron Watson and Cody Johnson as his musical influences. Worth a listen.
KIEFER SUTHERLAND – ‘FADED PAIR OF BLUE JEANS’
The third extract from Kiefer’s new album ‘Reckless And Me’, out now. ‘Open Road’ and ‘This Is How It’s Done’ haven’t broken through into the mainstream. Let’s hope it’s third time lucky.
SHERYL CROW & JOHNNY CASH – ‘REDEMPTION DAY’
This first saw the light of day on Sheryl’s 1996 self-titled album. It was also recorded by Johnny Cash who died in 2003. She has re-recorded her vocals and the technicians have mixed the two together, forming a powerful duet which has been released with permission of the Cash estate.
It’s taken from a forthcoming album that Sheryl Crow insists will be her last.
LOVE AND THEFT – ‘GIMME TONIGHT’
They had a number one US Country hit with ‘Angel Eyes’ in 2011 but haven’t been able to break the top 30 since. This is their first release since ‘You Didn’t Want Me’ in 2018, and the guys need another hit.
‘Gimme Tonight’ is a real grower. Great radio play potential and a welcome return to form for the guys who signed with Curb Records in March 2016.
JOSH GALLAGHER – ‘LOOK AT ME NOW’
Finalist on Season 11 of The Voice US releases a 6-track EP on May 3rd . He’s intending to release another 6 tracks in the fall with 2 single releases between the two projects.
‘Look At Me Now’ is the first single release from the EP and it’s a fine debut from a guy that has been receiving rave reviews from his peers in Nashville.
ANDREW HYATT – ‘ABEL’ (EP)
Canadian Andrew Hyatt has been featured before on YLIAS. Check out his ‘Cain’ EP that was released at the end of last year, featuring the superb ‘Some Dust Don’t Settle Down’.
We now have another 5-track EP aptly named ‘Abel’ that continues the high quality that we have come to expect.
DIPLO – ‘SO LONG’ (FEAT. CAM)
Diplo is Thomas Wesley. He usually makes EDM tunes with a Hip-Hop flavor. This is his first ‘country’-ish project, and features Cam who massively needs the exposure that this will no doubt provide for her.
It’s a great love song, EDM style with country elements. ‘Yee-DM’ if you like!
BEN DANAHER – ‘APPLE AND THE TREE’
Nashville-based singer-songwriter Ben Danaher originates from Texas and is currently supporting Sunny Sweeney on tour in the US before he begins a tour opening for Aaron Lewis.
‘Apple and the Tree’ is the first release of new music since his debut album ‘Still Feels Lucky’ was released last September.
