LITTLE BIG TOWN – ‘THE DAUGHTERS’
It’s been a quiet time for LBT, or maybe it’s just seemed that way. They haven’t had a chart hit for some time and they return with a song that is the first release from their forthcoming ninth studio album.
It’s essentially Karen Fairchild’s baby. She wrote it with Sean McConnell and Ashley Ray and sings lead vocals.
It’s definitely a grower but not instantly country radio material. It will be fascinating to see how this one is received. Brilliantly written with a powerful female-empowerment message.
MORGAN WALLEN – ‘IF I KNOW ME’
Morgan Wallen is described on his own website as a guy who “mixes boondock bangers, amped up anthems and sensitive shade tree poetry like a one man playlist” so this tells you all you need to know.
Let’s just say ‘If I Know Me’ is the former rather than the latter. Undeniably catchy – this could be a really successful follow-up to ‘Whiskey Glasses’ which is currently in the Top 20.
JADE MARIE PATEK – ‘LOVE’S TO BLAME’
Jade Marie Patek has been playing country music for the last decade, mainly in and around Texas, and was Texas Regional Radio’s 2019 New Female Vocalist Of The Year. She also released her debut 7-track EP ‘Flybird’ in November last year.
‘Love’s to Blame’ is a gorgeous throwback to the dance hall classics.
CLARE DUNN – ‘MY LOVE’
MCA Nashville artist Clare Dunn will be touring this year on the CMT Next Women Of Country Tour with Cassadee Pope and Hannah Ellis, and has released this up-beat country-pop single that she wrote with Eric Paslay and Jesse Frasure.
She’s raising her profile in the states having recently toured with Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan and Bob Segar.
MITCHELL TENPENNY – ‘JUST TO SEE YOU SMILE’
You may recall this one. It was a huge hit for Tim McGraw in 1997, and the longest song at #1 in the chart at that time. It was written by Tony Martin and Mark Nesler and was originally included on McGraw’s ‘Everywhere’ album.
Mitchell Tenpenny has put his own spin on it. It gets the YLIAS thumbs up!
SAM RIGGS – ‘DON’T STOP NOW’
There’s an underbelly of country artists in the States who are one hit record from hitting the big time. Sam Riggs, originally from Florida but now based Austin, Texas, has tasted chart success with a top 20 album ‘Breathless’ in 2016 but hasn’t yet crossed over to the country radio charts.
We loved ‘Second Hand Smoke’ from that album but it didn’t provide the breakthrough. ‘Don’t Stop Now’ is his latest single, another power ballad. Will this be the one ?
HIGH VALLEY – ‘SINGLE MAN’
Arguably Canadian Country Music’s most successful export in recent years, High Valley return with a typically infectious banjo-prominent stomper that is going to be awesome in their live shows.
It’s been a while since the guys paid us a visit. We need another High Valley party in the UK!
SPENCER CRANDALL – ‘MORE’
Another young guy trying to forge a country music career for himself is Spencer Crandall. There’s more than one way to get a break these days, and the familiar platforms Spotify and iTunes are awash with artists who independently release tracks hoping for recognition.
‘More’, the title track from upcoming album (out Friday), has a lot going for it. Radio friendly and infectious. Good luck Spencer!
