OLIVIA LANE – ‘SAME OLD STORY’
She’s just been in the UK, has big plans for 2020 having set up her own Nashville Studio and publishing company, and has released ‘Same Old Story’ as a taster from a new project.
She’s a native of Houston, Texas but now lives in Nashville and released her debut EP, ‘Love Thing’ in 2017. ‘Same Old Story’ is a great pop-country song that is quite simply made for country radio.
LEWIS BRICE – ‘IT’S YOU (I’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR)’
He made his UK festival debut at last year’s Buckle & Boots Festival and made himself a bunch of new friends.
‘It’s You’ is his first release of 2020 and was written with Ben Simonetti and Niko Moon. He describes it as a ‘poetic love song’, and with Valentine’s day approaching, it’s just about the perfect timing.
SAM HUNT – ‘HARD TO FORGET’
We know that this will easily surpass all of the other releases from this week in terms of sales and publicity. Sam Hunt has released the song that will almost certainly dominate country radio for the foreseeable future.
The Nashville big guns are out in force in the song writing credits, but it will be the use of a sample from Webb Pierce’s 1953 hit ‘There Stands The Glass’ that will fire up the debates.
His album ‘Southside’ is due out on April 3rd, and he embarks on a huge US tour with Kip Moore and Travis Denning on May 28th in Charlotte, North Carolina.
MACKENZIE PORTER – ‘SEEING OTHER PEOPLE’
“Have you felt the feeling of your heart dropping into your stomach when you first see your person with someone else”… Canadian country singer/actress Mackenzie Porter’s description of her new single ‘Seeing Other People’ released this week.
She’s signed with Big Loud records in Nashville and is another of the up-and-coming talented female pop-country singers pushing for a place at the top table.
BREAKING SOUTHWEST – ‘OUR BACKROADS’
They describe themselves as three Texans in Nashville writing country songs. Breaking Southwest are Kent Bell (vocals), Kyle Gaston (guitar) and Lauren Hall (fiddle/vocals), and began in local bars and clubs in north Texas. Their early big break came as a result of winning a showcase talent show which had a prize of a single deal with Big Machine.
They were mentored by Scott Borchetta and released ‘Ghost Town’ in 2016.
They are now based in Nashville. ‘Our Backroads’ is their new single.
ABBY ANDERSON – ‘I’LL STILL LOVE YOU’
She’s appearing at C2C 2020, this time on the main stage with Tenille Townes and Eric Paslay.
‘I’ll Still Love You’ is another Valentine’s Day-inspired love song and was written by Abby with Josh Kerr and Jordan Minton. It’s her follow-up to 2019’s ‘Good Lord’, which was also inspired by her boyfriend.
BARRETT BABER – ‘STILL FEELS LIKE SUMMER’
‘The Voice’ has consistently promoted up-and-coming US country singers due to the extensive involvement of Blake Shelton. Season 9 in 2015 featured Barrett Baber on Team Blake, where he eventually finished third.
Since then, the feet have been a little more grounded but the quality remains, both in terms of talent and production. ‘Still Feels Like Summer’ is hardly an emotion that we are expressing in the UK right now, but enjoy the track anyway!
JOHN ANDERSON FEAT. BLAKE SHELTON – ‘TUESDAY I’LL BE GONE’
A veteran of 21 albums and 67 singles, John Anderson has been off the scene since 2015’s ‘Goldmine’ album due a mixture of ill health and a country music world that had somewhat left him behind.
This collaboration with Blake Shelton is from Anderson’s forthcoming ‘Years’ album, which will be released on April 10th. They are touring together on Blake’s second annual ‘Friends and Heroes’ tour which is just about to commence in the US.
JESSE DANIEL – ‘ROLLIN’ ON’
The buzz is building amongst the traditionalists for this guy. A honky-tonk sound with steel guitar and telecaster – this is a taster from Californian Jesse Daniel’s forthcoming album, which will be released on March 27th.
