LAUREN JENKINS – ‘AIN’T THAT HARD’
Lauren’s professional life changed when she returned from the UK tour supporting Brett Eldredge. She was dropped by Big Machine, her musical home for the last 7 years.
It was 12 months, almost to the day, that she had released her debut album when she received notice that her label were cutting ties with her. It’s not the most ideal time to be an independent artist, but she’s bouncing back with the first release from a new project that will be released as a series of EPs.
TAYLOR ACORN – ‘IT’S NOT THIS’
Featuring Dan Swank, ‘It’s Not this’ is a breakup song, and a very good breakup song.
We’ve featured Taylor’s music previously. She impressed us here with a track she released last month called ‘Paper Airplanes’, and with Bobby Bones on her case, and an inclusion in the iHeart ‘Women Of Country’ streams, she may be on the cusp of a serious breakthrough.
COREY CROWDER – ‘MY POOR MAMA’
This is the type of song that suddenly springs from nowhere and becomes huge. Definitely a song for the crowded bar rooms and beers, so the current lockdown won’t be ideal, but if this had exposure it could be a real tune for the party crowds.
Corey co-wrote ‘Hangin’ On’ for Chris Young, amongst many other hits, and has been Nashville since 2010 forging an impressive song writing roster. He has had numerous top 20 singles with artists including FGL, RaeLynn, LOCASH and Dylan Schneider.
MARTINA MCBRIDE – ‘GIRLS LIKE ME’
Another track released following Martina’s appearance on ‘Songland’, the US song writing competition that also recently featured Lady Antebellum. ‘Girls Like Me’ was an entry composed by Halle Woodridge and hit maker Ester Dean.
CANAAN COX – ‘STAY HOME’
Canaan Cox has released a song that has a title that will resonate with most people these days, but the song has no direct pandemic connections.
It’s the title song to his new album, and the video is a masterclass in how to produce a quality product in the current environment.
ERIC PASLAY – ‘HEARTBEAT HIGHER (FEAT SARAH BUXTON)’
We grabbed an interview with Eric this week got the full rundown on this song. ‘Heartbeat Higher’ is his new release featuring Sarah Buxton. It’s a song that Eric has featured extensively in his live shows for the last couple of years, and there was no one better to sing it with that Sarah, the co-writer of the song.
The video was filmed during his tour stop in Stockholm, Sweden last year.
BAKER GRISSOM – ‘DRINK FOR THAT’
We have featured a bunch of aspiring country music stars previously on our lists who have upped sticks and relocated to Nashville. Baker Grissom originates from Sherwood Arkansas and moved to music city in 2014. He had dreams to be a hit song writer, and secured a publishing deal with RED Creative Group following an introduction from Adam Hambrick.
His debut EP ‘Saturdays and Sunday’ came out last year, and ‘Drink For That’ is his new single.
DANIELLE BRADBERY – ‘NEVER HAVE I EVER’
Written with Laura Veltz and David Hall Hodges, this is Danielle’s first release since her collaboration with Thomas Rhett on ‘Goodbye Summer’ in 2018.
It’s now 7 years since Danielle appeared on ‘The Voice’, and her new single tells the story of a new relationship and the emotions that this creates.
CLAYTON ANDERSON – ‘STRUGGLE BUS’
Another of the positive, up-beat pop-country tunes that seem to lift spirits in these unusual times.
Clayton Anderson opened for Zac Brown at the Indy 500.
“Hop on the struggle bus to realise that life will not be perfect“. As we said, an anthem for the times we live in.
JORDAN DAVIS – ‘ALMOST MAYBES’
Jordan will release a self-titled EP on 22nd May, and this is another catchy song from it.
It has ‘country radio hit song’ stamped all over it, and continues Jordan’s run of form over the last couple of years.
TIM MCGRAW – ‘I CALLED MAMA’
Tim’s first release back with Big Machine, and a return to the Tim McGraw of old, at his very best.
Written by Lance Miller, Marv Green and Jimmy Yeary, ‘I Called Mama’ sees Tim feeling an urge to call his mom after hearing some sad news, which sure many of us listeners will relate to.
One of the best songs of the week, and certainly Tim’s best for some time.
