The nights are drawing in. Country Music Week is done, and the bags are being packed for the CMA Awards. It’s time to select a few more tunes to brighten up these Autumnal nights!
JOHN MORELAND – ‘EAST OCTOBER’
Moreland is back. It’s been 2 years since the release of his last studio album ‘Big Bad Luv’. John Moreland’s new album ‘LP5’ will be with us on 7th February 2020.
That might seem a while to wait but we do have the first taster, ‘East October’, and it’s a real gem.
STONEY LARUE – ‘MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE’
Country music is often the perfect chameleon with a multitude of style and substance. It often seems as though the traditional pedal steel and piano gets pushed out of the way. Stoney LaRue seeks to set the balance with a return to the roots with a classic country ballad that has a story to tell.
LaRue’s new album ‘Onward’ is a couple of weeks away and this first release from that project is setting the scene.
KYLIE FREY – ‘ONE NIGHT IN TULSA‘
Kylie Frey is a hugely promising up-and-comer in Nashville, who’s currently getting her name recognised by appearing at songwriter rounds at venues like The Listening Room Café, having also appeared on US prime-time singing competition ‘Real Country’.
‘One Night In Tulsa’ is superb. Well worth a listen…
TEMECULA ROAD – ‘MAYBE NOT’
They have just been in the UK with Scotty McCreerey, opening his sold out shows in Manchester and London. Sisters Emma and Maddie Salute and best mate Dawson Anderson make up Temecula Road, and the new single ‘Maybe Not’ is their third new release of the year. Another band with HUGE potential.
They are making their Opry debut on Friday!
ERIN ENDERLIN – ‘HOMETOWN JERSEY’
Two years ago, Ashley McBryde walked onto the Indigo stage and blew away the C2C crowd. She was main stage next year and on her way to country superstardom. Erin Enderlin has the talent to repeat that feat if she was given the same opportunity. We have championed her cause previously on YLIAS.
Her music has been regularly released over the last few months and she has built up a strong body of work. ‘Hometown Jersey’ is featured on a 14-song vinyl album ‘Faulkner Country’, coming this Friday.
MICKY AND THE MOTORCARS – ‘RODEO GIRL‘
They are just about to release their sixth studio album ‘Long Time Comin’ and have been touring almost non stop for the last 17 years, so brothers Micky and Gary Braun have paid their dues. ‘Rodeo Girl’ is the second track from the new album, following on from ‘The Road To You’ .
They are based in Austin, Texas.
JORDAN DAVIS – ‘TROUBLE TOWN’
Jordan is gearing up for his second album and has very recently toured in the UK with Old Dominion (check out our interview). This is the first sample from the new record. A typically catchy pop-country tune that will almost certainly guarantee a successful follow up to ‘Slow Dance…’. He will be back on our shores next March for C2C.
THE CADILLAC THREE – ‘LONG AFTER LAST CALL‘
Another band that will be debuting at C2C in 2020. The Cadillac Three are awesome live – if you haven’t seen them, you’re in for a (very loud) treat!
A lot of their output would please the rock fans, but they also remain loyal to their country roots, and with Jaren Johnson have one of country music’s most prolific and diverse songwriters.
‘Long After Last Call’ is another taster from their upcoming album ‘Country Fuzz’, set for release on 7th February.
DAVID NAIL – ‘OH, MOTHER’
Our inspiration for the conception of YLIAS back in the day came from two musical sources, Zac Brown Band and David Nail. His back catalogue remains a stunning body of work and we would argue that he has the best voice in country music.
However, for whatever reason, his previous record company couldn’t sell his music and he was dropped by MCA in early 2017 after a 10-year association. He announced a new project in July 2018, ‘David Nail and the Well Ravens’, which saw an album released in September 2018.
We don’t know the status of that project now, but we now have his first solo release of 2019, ‘Oh Mother’, which deals with mental health issues. It’s so good to have the proper David Nail back – it’s been far too long.
LEWIS BRICE – ‘NOTHIN’ BUT THE TV ON’
Lewis made an appearance at Buckle and Boots earlier this year and is back in the UK with William Michael Morgan and American Young on the Buckle & Boots ‘It’s Your Round’ tour.
His new single ‘Nothin’ But The TV On’ is an up-beat party song that should receive plenty of airings on the upcoming tour.
