SINGLE REVIEW: Brett Eldredge – ‘Somethin’ I’m Good At’

“I can’t even explain the anticipation and excitement I’ve been feeling about putting out new music,” said Brett Eldredge. And now the wait is over with his new single ‘Somethin’ I’m Good At’ available now. The new song, written by Eldredge and Tom Douglas, is the first single from his forthcoming album due out this summer.

A creative and prolific songwriter, Eldredge says “Somethin’ I’m Good At” fits his personality more than any song he’s ever written. “It’s exciting to write and record a song that captures this side of me and this song is full of life and excitement. I hope everyone feels the way I do about it and I hope it puts a smile on your face when you hear it as you’re driving down the road or unloading the dishwasher or whatever you’re doing, I just hope it makes you happy,” he continued.

If there was a sound to describe Brett Eldredge ‘Somethin’ I’m Good At’ hits that nail right on the head. Crazy, catchy, unpredictable and fun… all the things that make Brett who he is.

‘I’m a real bad liar, I’m a burnt toast kinda guy
And if I try to build a fire I’ll burn the woods
I ain’t a mover or a shaker, can’t keep up with the pacer
Never met a dancefloor that ever did me any good’

The verses see Brett describing everything he might not be so good at, but the chorus focuses on what we all have come to know and love him for… his insane ability to make people smile. As a person, I find he is the most happy-go-lucky, clumsy, fun-loving joker, with a heart of absolute gold.

“I can’t change the world, no I can’t change a flat
If you give me your heart, girl, well, you may never get it back
You said you’d never smile again, but oh no, here it comes
Would you look at that?
I finally found somethin’ I’m good at”

With a big band/country-pop sound, if ANYONE can listen to this song and keep still… there has got to be something wrong with them! I can hear a Michael Buble influence in here too – from tracks like ‘Nobody But Me’ and ‘Haven’t Met You Yet’.

It’s playful, quirky and for me, Brett not taking life too seriously. I literally jumped out of my bed this morning and couldn’t stop dancing around my apartment like a basket case with a huge grin on my face! He has used only the good notes and I LOVE to hear banjo! His vocals are so versatile, with surprises and unexpected highs. If you know Brett at all, this track is just perfect and sums up his character to a tee.

Bring on the rest of the record!
