We recently featured two artists from Australia and we now turn our attention to another country that has a long tradition of Country Music. The current Canadian Male Artist of the Year Gord Bamford has released his 7th studio album ‘Tin Roof’. He is presently touring with Joe Nichols in the US and Canada.
He has recently relocated to Nashville and we are treated to a high quality 15-track album. Stand-outs include ‘The Country I Grew Up In’, a song that Bamford states is relatable to him and “sonically works with radio today”.
Another is ‘Old’, a Bamford song that almost appeared on a George Strait album. It’s an anthem in the making. “I Wanna Grow Old With You”. It showcases his traditional country style and will greatly appeal to his fan base.
Most artists accept that live performances are their bread and butter and there are a number of songs here that are clearly intended for the live audience – ‘Kiss me Boots’ and ‘Don’t Let Me Be Gone’, the latter straying into the pop country sound that Bamford hasn’t previously been associated with.
The highlight for us has to be ‘When I Go’, lyrically superb and as good a ballad as we have heard for some time.
There aren’t any album fillers here and we have a solid country album from an artist who is definitely worth checking out.
