SINGLE REVIEW: Brothers Osborne – ‘Shoot Me Straight’

No-one can deny that TJ and ‘Jingle’ John had a pretty epic 2017!!! They gained one hell of a radio buzz and were celebrated and honoured with awards, that, let’s face it, they more than deserved! Vocal Duo of the Year (CMA’s and ACM’s) and Music Video of the Year (CMA’s) – couldn’t have gone to anyone else really. The video for It Ain’t My Fault was absolute genius.

Pawn Shop (2015) is probably one of my favourite Country albums and as with any artist, I’m always sceptical in the anticipation of new music. What if they sell out on who they are? What if it’s not as good as their last record? Please lord don’t sell out to that Country Pop BS! These boys… Keep.It.Real.

I was lucky enough to get to see the boys perform Shoot Me Straight last year in Manchester, while they were on their first UK tour with the Cadillac Three. The vibe in the audience was electric, completely captivated .TJ is a one-man powerhouse with baritone vocals that shake you to your core and ‘Jingle’ John, well, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone play quite like it. The man is a six-string magician with a second nature fluidity; I literally drown in his solos. Some artists milk and overstretch the guitar breakdowns in the middle of songs, but John, I could watch all night. I am so glad that we get the better side of 4 full minutes of pure guitar to close this track out.

With TJ’s faultless vocals and John’s incomparable shredding, my face is melted by this bad ass track. Any red-blooded woman will have one hell of a heart hangover after listening to this 7-minute infusion of country and gritty rock, with deliciously filthy guitar!

I for one cannot wait for their new album, which is coming this year… Not forgetting their own headlining UK Tour kicking off in May!
