SINGLE REVIEW: Jade Helliwell – ‘Stormchaser’

English Country sweetheart Jade Helliwell is having a pretty huge 2019 so far. Not only has she toured Australia with Buckle & Boots and been announced on the C2C line up, she is back with her latest single Stormchaser, which is already receiving traction after premiering on Chris Country Radio in February. Stormchaser will be released and available on all major platforms on March 8th 2019.

Following the release of her last single Drive (2018), Stormchaser sees Jade channelling her inner Kelsea Ballerini with poignant lyrical imagery and a Kelly Clarkson-style powerful vocal delivery.

The story is rather traditional of the Country genre – seeing a girl continue to chase a guy, even though she knows he’s no good for her. It also has that pleasant, mainstream Country-Pop persuasion, but is not over-produced.

I’m not normally a fan of the electronic drum machine and inserted finger snaps, but it blends nicely with this number. I think Jade has achieved what she set out for with this single. With Stormchaser, Jade showcases a much more powerful vibe than many of her listeners will be accustomed to and encompasses the Country radio commercial appeal.

Jade talks about the single, co-written with Luke Thomas, Daisy Davis and Jason Tucker in Nashville. In her words, Stormchaser is a bit of a change for her sonically. However, she wants people to appreciate and see the other side of her music.

“Stormchaser is a bit of a different release for me. I’m excited to show this different side of my music to everyone. It really paints a strong image of being hooked on someone who you know is no good for you but you just keep on chasing after them and running straight into the eye of a storm. I hope people relate to it but also enjoy singing and dancing along to this one!”

Stormchaser is a track that every woman can relate to – we’ve all had that one doozy that we KNOW was no good, but would have probably jumped off a cliff after his dumb ass, if he said so. I actually love it, which is rather rare for me – if you’ve read any of my other reviews, I’m not the biggest fan of Country Pop. However, this track… I see a smash hit and I hope Jade gets the recognition she deserves, not only on the performing circuit this year, but when it comes to awards time.
