Yorkshire artist Jess Thristan has firmly made her mark on
a thriving UK country scene this year, stunning critics and fans with the
release of her new single ‘The Old Me’. Riding the crest of the wave, she’s set
to release her delicate new single ‘Your Turn’, showcasing more of her personal
songwriting and emotive melodic style. Epitomising the twists and turns of life
as a young girl learning how to deal with her challenges, ‘Your Turn’ takes on
a whole new level of vulnerability for Jess. With its acoustic vibe and pedal
steel, it’s a wonderful blend of roots influences with resonating lyrical
content.
The past few years have seen Jess emerge as one of the UK’s
most exciting young songwriters, having sharing bills with the likes of Remember
Monday, Jade Helliwell and Andy Brown, as well as an
appearance at Buckle & Boots Festival this year. Jess has found fans
in key tastemakers Maverick Magazine and Countryline TV, while
her new single was also supported on Spotify’s influential Very Nearly
Nashville playlist. On the airwaves, the first single was championed by Baylen
Leonard on Country Hits UK, Where Jess was announced as his Country
Champion. She’s also written withthe likes of Tim Prottey-Jones (The
Wandering Hearts), Jamie Evans (Wildwood Kin), Jessica Sharman (Ward Thomas) among many others.
A talented writer from an early age, Jess wrote her first
track “The Shield” at just 15 years old. She would later go on to record it at
the famous Angel Studios with a 24-piece orchestra as well as a cover of The
Beatles’ classic “From Me To You”, which went on to feature as the soundtrack
to a SKY TV Christmas campaign. After releasing her debut album ‘This Is Home’,
Jess took a step away from music to take stock and refocus her musical
direction. This inevitably led her back to her first musical love and she began
writing Country & Americana music heavily influenced by some of her
favourites such as Jillian Jacqueline and Maren Morris, while
keeping her own roots and style. The past year saw Jess not only writing but
testing the new tracks playing around London, Manchester and the Leeds
area.
