Following their tenacious
introductory single ‘The Cloud Bursts’, which was met with critical acclaim,
London-based 5-piece The Outside Chancers are set to build on the momentum with
their new single ‘Absent Friends’. Taken from their upcoming debut EP, ‘Absent
Friends’ showcases a more subtle side to their diverse sound, full of delicate
harmonies and a beautiful acapella introduction. Masters of their craft
instrumentally, The Outside Chancers pay homage to “those absent friends who
went before us” with a stunningly intricate, traditional country sound that
delves into their old-time, roots influences.
“Absent Friends is a drinking toast. We probably all
wistfully wonder now and then whether those who’ve gone before us might be
looking on – it’s common to people of all faiths and none. Plus there’s always
something slightly indefinable about being where the land meets the sea.
It’s a duet we sang together round a couple mics,
June and Johnny style – it’s nice to record live as much as possible.”
The Outside Chancers bring a wealth of experience to the
thriving Country/Americana scene, having worked individually with the likes of
Logan Brill, The Wandering Hearts and The Worry Dolls. Guitarist and songwriter
Dan has even had music featured on the hugely popular Nashville TV series.
Adding even more strings to their bow outside of the country genre, vocalist
Jen has performed alongside bands such as The Vaccines and Billy Ocean, with
keyboard player Natalie regularly touring as a backing vocalist for Goldie.
Natalie can also boast her own top 10 album release as a solo artist.
With an EP recorded and lined up
for a release in the near future, The Outside Chancers have made a very
positive start, having found supporters in key tastemakers like Baylen
Leonard (Country Hits Radio), Lyric Magazine, Countryline TV, Belles
& Gals and more. Definitely an act to keep an eye on, The Outside
Chancers are a refreshing new addition to the ever-growing genre.
