Tenille Townes won three awards during this week’s 2020 Canadian Country Music Awards: Female Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year (“Jersey On The Wall (I’m Just Asking)”) and Video of the Year (“Jersey On The Wall (I’m Just Asking)”).
Tying as the night’s most awarded artist, Townes is now an eight-time CCMA winner after receiving awards in all of her nominated categories and leading winners at last year’s ceremony. Townes also performed “Jersey On The Wall (I’m Just Asking)” during last night’s awards broadcast live from Nashville.
Of the recognitions, Townes reflects, “It’s an honour to be a part of this Canadian Country Music community and feel this belief. I’ve been watching CCMAs since I was a little kid, and this all feels so wonderful. I’m grateful this music is finding its way to people listening out there, especially ‘Jersey on the Wall’ this past year. Meant the world to play that song on the show!”
These accolades continue a breakout year for Townes, who won two awards earlier this month at the 55th ACM Awards—New Female Artist of the Year and Music Event of the Year for “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” with Miranda Lambert, Maren Morris, Ashley McBryde, Caylee Hammack and Elle King—and recently released a new rendition of Leonard Cohen’s iconic song, “Hallelujah.”
